The Delhi city government on Tuesday decided to sell baby shark toy sets, baby carrier toys, and baby shark pet cages at a number of malls across the city.
The announcement came as the city continues to grapple with the massive surge in cases of the pandemic.
“We have made the decision to sell all of these items at malls.
This is a big initiative to combat the growing threat of baby shark in the city,” said Delhi city commissioner for health, Sanjay Singh.
The city had banned the sale of baby sharks in the cities of Kochi, Bandra, Mumbai and Ahmedabad in April last year.
Since then, there have been a number people injured in the shark-infested waters of the city and the department has been working to make sure these sharks are not sold at malls, according to the Delhi city spokesperson.
The city government has decided to put a ban on the sale at malls of baby Shark toys, baby Shark toy sets and baby Shark pet cages.
Baby Shark toys and baby aquarium toys will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis at two malls in the area: Akshardham Mall in the south of the capital and the Mallya Mall in north Delhi.
The department has also decided to ban the sale and distribution of baby and baby pet cages in the vicinity of these malls.
There will be a total ban on sale and sale of these toys and cage sets and they will not be sold anywhere in the capital city.
They will be banned at the Malls of Kochiyaket and Bandra Malls, the department said in a statement.
